I'm Mark Hartill — a wedding photographer based in Middlesbrough, Teesside, where I live with my wife and our two children. This is my home, and photographing weddings here and across the North East is genuinely something I love.
I've been photographing weddings for a few years now and I still feel the same excitement on every single wedding morning. No two days are ever the same, no two couples are ever the same, and every wedding tells a completely unique story. I love that.
My approach has always been the same: be as invisible as possible, let the day happen naturally, and capture every real moment as it unfolds. Natural portraits, no stopping, no interrupting. Just photography that genuinely reflects who you are.
When I'm not photographing weddings I'm spending time with my wife and kids here in Middlesbrough — which is exactly where I want to be. Being a dad has completely changed how I see wedding photography. When you watch two people get married and think about your own family, the moments that matter become very clear very quickly. It's never the posed shots. It's always the real ones.
I grew up on Teesside and I'm proud of where I'm from. There's a genuine warmth to people here — a directness, a friendliness — that I absolutely love. And that comes through in wedding photography too. North East couples are brilliant to work with.
I'm also passionate about destination weddings. The idea of travelling somewhere beautiful — Italy, Greece, France, the USA — and photographing two people getting married there is genuinely exciting to me. I shoot in a natural, documentary style — sometimes called reportage or photojournalism. It means I never stop your day to arrange a shot. I never ask you to look at the camera. I just blend in and let everything happen naturally. The photos you'll love most are always the ones where you forgot I was there.
That said, I do believe in a small number of relaxed, natural couple portraits — not stiff posed shots, but a few minutes together in beautiful light to capture something timeless alongside all the candid moments. Just relaxed, natural and genuinely you.
